The All-New 2024 Honda Prologue – Coming Soon!
A prologue is an introduction, something that leads to another event.
It’s a pretty apt name for Honda’s upcoming BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), the 2024 Prologue. This SUV is the world’s introduction to the future of Honda, and the future of automobiles in America. It is their first in what is planned to be a long line of BEVs, as they continue to evolve as a company. Let’s take a look at the Prologue, how it came about, and what to expect!
Honda is no stranger to the electric vehicle – the Fit EV was available in certain states in the early 2000s, while the Clarity also had an electric version for California and Oregon. The Fit had a whopping range of 82 miles per gallon, making it particularly restrictive – although it could fully charge in roughly three hours. These vehicles couldn’t produce the efficiency that modern electric vehicles can, and didn’t have the available charging infrastructure either.
Honda has addressed the first by working together with General Motors. The 2024 Honda Prologue will be built on GM’s Ultium Propulsion platform, which underpins the upcoming GMC Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and more. Utilizing this platform will enable better scaling of manufacturing, and help Honda keep the Prologue affordable to shoppers. Meanwhile, the charging infrastructure continues to develop across the country, with charging posts popping up everywhere across the country, from gas stations to retail locations to independent charging boxes.
While the Accord and CR-V offer hybrid versions, and the Clarity is only available as a hybrid, they are smaller vehicles and – again – hybrid only, not fully electric.
With full electric power, the Prologue will also offer full-sized usefulness! Slotting in between the Pilot and the Passport, it will provide seating for at least five, while a three-row version may also be offered. The bodywork and interior will be all-Honda, and while we expect you’ll see some of the styling cues from the SUV e: Concept, we expect them to be meshed with the current styling template that links many of Honda’s SUV models together. You can expect the same level of fit and finish across the interior that you see in the current roster of Honda SUVs. We’re also expecting four different option packages, following the usual Honda LX-EX-EX-L-Touring nomenclature.
As we said earlier, the 2024 Honda Prologue is just the introduction – just the beginning. It’s kicking off a new era of electrified Honda vehicles, with Honda declaring a target of 100% EV sales in North America by 2040. While ambitious, their plans with the Prologue are plenty obtainable, particularly as oil prices continue to rise, pushing more buyers toward alternative power.
The Prologue will also give birth to Acura’s take on the midsize SUV, expected to follow the Prologue to market by a few months. This will of course feature the upmarket interiors and tech found across the luxury brand’s range, along with an exterior design that will differentiate them, but will feature the same chassis and underpinnings. Both the Prologue and the forthcoming Acura will be produced at American plants, where Honda and GM can take advantage of their partnership!
